Andover is a town in Essex County, Massachusetts. It was settled in 1642 and incorporated in 1646. The total area is 32.1 sq mi (83.2 km2).

The population was 33,021 at the 2010 United States Census, among which 87.2% were whites and 5% were Asians. The median age of the population is 47.1. For population 25 years and over in Andover, Belmont, 56.7% has a bachelor’s degree or higher and 28.4% has a graduate or professional degree. The most common occupations for male are computer specialists (11%), other management occupations except farmers and farm managers (8%), top executives (5%), engineers (5%), sales representatives, services, wholesale and manufacturing (5%), preschool, kindergarten, elementary and middle school teachers (4%) and retail sales workers except cashiers (4%).

The median household income in Andover in 2009 was $71,451, and the median per capita income in 2009 was $40,853. The median Asian household income in Andover was $105,155 in 2009. 10% of Andover families had an annual income above $200,000, and 11% of families had an annual income between $150,000 to $200,000. The estimated median house or condo value in 2009 was $435,525.

There are six public elementary schools in Andover: Bancroft Elementary School, High Plain Elementary School , Sanborn Elementary School , Shawsheen Elementary School, South Elementary School and West Elementary School , and three middle schools in Andover: Doherty Middle School, West Middle School and Wood Hill Middle School. According to the Massachusetts high school ranking conducted by Boston Magazine, Andover High School was ranked 27th within Massachusetts in 2012. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Andover High School is 57 percent.

Andover is the location of the intersection of Interstate 93 and Interstate 495. The town is also served by Route 28, which passes as the main road from north to south through town, as well as Route 133 and Route 125. Andover has two stops, Ballardvale and Andover along the Haverhill/Reading Line of the MBTA Commuter Rail, providing rail service from Haverhill to Boston’s North Station.
