How to increase your curb appeal?

Posted on July 23rd, 2013

You may have heard about real estate agents and potential homebuyers discussing the idea of curb appeal. If your home is already listed and you’re regularly working with a real estate agent, curb appeal should be a big priority.

Curb appeal basically describes the exterior look of your home, or what a buyer might see if they were to do a drive-by of your house. The idea of increasing curb appeal is to have a home that really catches a buyer’s eye and causes them to stop and make a notable effort to come and see your home.

You can present a good curb appeal at all times as well as get professional photos done of the exterior of your home for real estate advertising. This will help to show all of the positive traits of your home so that potential buyers will be very interested to tour your home directly.

Here are some of the most common ways that you can work to increase your curb appeal:

1. Regular landscaping: if you aren’t the type of homeowner that regularly grooms their lawn, considers gardens or trims the trees on their property now is the time to start considering these issues. Landscaping is needed in order to increase curb appeal. Always keeping your grass cut especially if there is an open house showing, removing some heavy bushes or brush from your land or considering even professional landscaping services to make sure that your property is very well kept at all times, is important to increasing your curb appeal.

2. Lighting on your property: lighting the front entrance way to your home is important as well. Making the front of your home look inviting at all times as well as working on the entrance way to your home is a good way to create an excellent first impression. Many home owners will typically set out pots of flowers, get some new entranceway lights or even hang lanterns along walkways in the entrance ways to their home to make it look more inviting.

3. A fresh coat of paint and clean Windows: if the outside of your house is in disrepair, has faded paint or is fairly dirty you may want to consider sprucing it up a bit. Something as simple as a quick pressure wash, a fresh coat of paint or even washing your Windows can work to make your home appear much more modern and taken care of.

4. Driveway and porch area: your driveway can get worn down quite easily and resealing it or power washing it is a great way to reduce the visible signs of aging on an old driveway. Make sure to repair any potholes or marks in your driveway as well. Depending on the type of porch that you may have you can also work to update and repair this entrance way or backyard oasis is well. Make sure that your garage door or any entry doors also work effectively and do not squeak. For power garage doors, make sure that they work successfully as this can be a big sign that a homeowner is not taking care of their property.
