Arlington is a town in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, a suburb of Boston. The Town of Arlington was originally settled by European Colonists in 1635 as a village, and was incorporated on February 27, 1807. The total area of the town is 5.5 sq mi (14.3 km2).

The population was 42,844 at the 2010 United States Census, among which 83.6% were whites and 8.3% were Asians. The median age of the population is 41.7. For population 25 years and over in Arlington, 52.8% has a bachelor’s degree or higher and 28.2% has a graduate or professional degree. The most common occupations for male are computer specialists (13%) , other management occupations except farmers and farm managers (6%) , engineers (4%) and business operations specialists (4%).

The median household income in Arlington in 2009 was $84,907, and the median per capita income in 2009 was $45,279. The median Asian household income in Arlington was $103,471 in 2009. 10% of Arlington families had an annual income above $200,000, and 8% of families had an annual income between $150,000 to $200,000. The estimated median house or condo value in 2009 was $458,689. The criminal index in 2009 Arlington was 135.8 (U.S. average: 319.1).

Arlington has a public school system with nine schools. The seven elementary schools (K-5) are Brackett, Bishop, Thompson, Hardy, Peirce, Stratton, and Dallin. There is also a single middle school (grades 6-8), Ottoson, and Arlington High School, which includes grades 9-12. According to the Massachusetts high school ranking conducted by Boston Magazine, Arlington High School was ranked 40th within Massachusetts in 2012. Students have the opportunity to take Advanced Placement coursework and exams. The AP participation rate at Arlington High School is 52 percent.
